Ten Hills
Ten Hills is a little gem of a neighborhood in Somerville that I find many people have never heard of - partially because it’s only a handful of blocks. It's bound by the Mystic River, McGrath Highway and Route 93. It consists primarily of two-family properties, which are a mix of pure investment properties as well as owner-occupants who've been there for multiple decades.
It has wonderful direct access to the Mystic River with boating opportunities through the Blessings of the Bay Boathouse, which is located directly on the Mystic River and is owned by the Mystic River Reservation. In the warmer months, you can rent canoes and paddle boats and enjoy paddling right onto the Mystic River.
There's also Grimmins Park, which has a fenced-in play area and separate fenced-in area for toddlers, plus a splash pad in the warmer months and a half basketball court.
This is a very convenient part of Somerville because it provides for easy access to Route 93. It also is directly across from Assembly Row, which has Trader Joe's, CVS, Starbucks, Home Depot, a movie theater, tons of restaurants, shops, and cafes.
It tends to attract a mix of old-school Somerville folks who've been in the neighborhood for decades as well as a lot of young professionals that are either reverse commuters on Route 93 or commute to Boston via the Orange Line at Assembly Row which is just a short 15-minute walk away.
